A GOOD HOPE

It is a good time for love, dedication and sacrifice.

TODAY is a good day to be with the family and share both the good moments and the difficult moments that we would have had this year. Today is December 24 and as such, billions of Christian people gather around a table and enjoy all those we truly love. Because it is around the family that the nativity season begins. Today we should emulate that Hebrew family that trusted in the power of God to be used as the parents of the Son of God. Today we should bring to our memories that precisely because of this birth, it was possible that there was a life dedicated to the service of the human being: Because God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him , do not get lost, but have eternal life.

“BECAUSE A CHILD HAS BEEN BORN TO US, A SON HAS BEEN GIVEN TO US, AND SOVEREIGNTY HE WILL REST ON HIS SHOULDERS; AND HIS NAME WILL BE CALLED ADMIRABLE COUNSELLOR, MIGHTY GOD, ETERNAL FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE.”

Isaiah 9: 6

Today we celebrate the Gospel of Christ. We should not say that one day in December our redeemer was born, in any case, we could place him in the middle of the year. But, human beings have agreed to say that today we want to celebrate his earthly birth in memory of the Son of God. Well, by his grace and love, Jesus Christ was one hundred percent man, just as he was, one hundred percent God. Today we could decide to accept Christ in our hearts and thus allow him to be born in us and enjoy the joy of Salvation that only Christ provides us.

“FOR YOU HAS BEEN BORN TO YOU TODAY, IN THE CITY OF DAVID, A SAVIOR, WHO IS CHRIST THE LORD. AND SUDDENLY A MULTITUDE OF HEAVENLY ARMIES APPEARED WITH THE ANGEL, PRAISING GOD AND SAYING: GLORY TO GOD IN THE HEIGHTS, AND ON EARTH PEACE AMONG MEN IN WHOM HE IS PLEASED.”

Luke 2:11; 13 and 14

It is up to us to have this good hope in our hearts. It will therefore be our decision to accept the birth of the redeemer or not. This holiday is not about the proclamation of an ancient Egyptian or Mesopotamian god as some try to suggest. We must consider the purity of our heart to praise God just as these shepherds did along with all the heavenly armies that accompanied them. Let us enjoy the family we have, no matter how minimal it may be, or for the difficult time we are going through, because God promised us: The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. In green meadows he makes me rest, next to calm waters he takes me. The Lord comforts me, he leads me along straight paths honouring his name. Although he walks through dark valleys, I will fear no evil, because you are with me, your rod and your staff keep me calm. You prepare a table before me before my enemies, you anoint my head with oil, and my cup overflows. Good and good will be with me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for days without end.
