CHRISTIAN DEVOTIONAL
PERSEVERING IN PRAYER
Prayer is the key to our relationship with God.
WE ARE seeing a series of regulations given by the Apostle Paul, both to the Church, to the church of Rome, and to us today. This series of guidelines is included in the gifts that the Holy Spirit of God gives us. Encourage, serve, be generous, love, lead, be diligent. For now, we will see that we should also be cheerful, pray for others, help those in need, and practice hospitality. In this devotional, I want to place a special emphasis on the need for perseverance in prayer. I asked an acquaintance: when was the last time you prayed to God? And his answer left me a little frozen: “two years ago when my twin sons were born”. However, he practices Rugby three times a week. He exercises every day and eats three times a day. Therefore, here comes my question: why, if we look for our bodily well-being, do not we do it about what really matters, our spiritual well-being?
“REJOICE IN HOPE, SHOW PATIENCE IN SUFFERING, PERSEVERE IN PRAYER.”
Romans 12.12
Let us pray together: my God, today I recognise before your throne of glory and truth, that permanent prayer is a pending task to fulfil. In the name of your Son Jesus Christ, add faith to my faith and create in me the habit of prayer to affirm our relationship.
Praying to God is a two way street. It is not a simple monologue on our part, as if we were talking to ourselves against the wall, or on God's part, as when we only read the Bible or watch different sermons to hear the word of God without having a moment of intimacy in prayer with him. Prayer is a habit that is cultivated, we must start with small portions of our time, until we stay and persevere in prayer 24/7. Leading this lifestyle, and the fact of cultivating this good habit, will make us overcome difficulties, and thus, be very simple, because God will speak to us about the strategy that must be carried out in said situation.
“HELP THE NEEDY BROTHERS. PRACTICE HOSPITALITY.”
Romans 12.13
Let us pray together: One true God, we ask you in the Name of your Son Jesus Christ to enable us to be people prone to praying and seeking your presence.
For me it is an undeniable fact, prayer and persevering in it, has made me sensitive to God's feeling towards humanity. Because it has helped me to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit attending to all those who are truly seeking God, I can understand and comprehend God's strategy for a specific situation and opening not only my heart, but also my house at the right time when someone needed it. If this has happened to me, can we imagine what our world would be like if all of us who believe in God persevere in prayer?
God bless you.
