LET US WAKE UP

Being lethargic is no excuse to stay asleep, we must act now!

AS a Latino, I really like to take a nap in the afternoon. Honestly, I need it because I tend to freak me out a lot at night. In this way, I regain strength and spirits. The most surprising thing is, on many occasions, closing my eyes for 10 minutes is enough to recover my strength and so, I think I have taken a nap. Now, having a strong desire to nap does not make me a sleepy person. Due to my responsibilities, I know that I must maintain 100% of my senses. But, it hasn't always been like this: I remember on one occasion in 1990, how young we went to Bogotá and in the middle of the journey, in the Paramo de la Línea, the fog was so dense that we forced ourselves to stand guard on the bus and help the driver. However, my watch, which was between 3:30 am and 4:30 am, lasted less than 5 minutes, because I fell deeply asleep in the driver's cabin. I could not wake up and not only made a fool of myself, but I also failed to fulfil a vital commitment I had made.

“LOVE DOES NOT DO EVIL TO OTHERS; SO THE FULFILMENT OF THE LAW IS LOVE.”

Romans 13.10

Let us pray together: Holy God, you are the Creator of Heaven and Earth. Help me to fulfil the Law of Love that you teach me through your gospel. Let me extend your kingdom and show that Christ lives in me.

For all those who are desperate to fulfillthe Law of Moses, the Gospel of Christ described by the Apostle Paul gives us its perfection: love God and love your neighboUr from him. The love of God is the only conduit that will bring us fairly close to fulfilling the Law. As human beings, we will never achieve it. However, we can be confident, Jesus of Nazareth did fulfil all the Law, because he gave himself out of love for God and for all humanity.

 

“AND THIS, KNOWING THE TIME, THAT IT IS NOW TIME TO GET UP FROM HIS SLEEP; BECAUSE NOW OUR SALVATION IS CLOSER TO US THAN WHEN WE BELIEVED.”

Romans 13.11

Let us pray together: Jesus Christ, I want to prove that you are alive in me. I know that I am imperfect, but that in my weakness you glorify yourself. Show me how to love all human beings in the same way that you loved them.

The Apostle Paul wrote: as it is written: GOD GIVEN THEM A SPIRIT OF STUPOR, EYES WITH WHICH THEY DO NOT SEE AND EARS WITH WHICH THEY DO NOT HEAR, UNTIL THIS DAY. This same spirit of stupidity causes in us that blindness that does not let us see beyond our noses. Therefore, we must cry out to God so that we wake up from this spiritual slumber that allows us to act correctly in favor of God's love.
